ALICE ELIZABETH  RODRIGUEZ

Born to Charles and Henrietta Craft in Jamaica, New York on April 12, 1923, Alice passed away on June 29, 2020. She was 97 years old.

She had a sister, Eleanor Pasimeni, Utah, who predeceased her.  Alice is survived by her daughter Nancy Trahan (husband Stan) in North Carolina, daughter Carol Roberts (husband Hugh), granddaughter Jennifer Roberts in Orlando, FL, niece Jane Willie (Utah) and her children and grandchildren, and nephew Steven Pasimeni (Illinois).

Alice served in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in WWII from 1945 to 1946. She attained the rank of corporal and was a Clerk Typist assigned to the Personnel Office at Ft. Riley, Kansas working primarily in the payroll division. Upon discharge, she received a letter of commendation from the commanding officer for her valuable service and outstanding performance. She was quite proud of her military service and made some life-long friends there.

During her married life, Alice was a wife and mother to her two daughters and lived in New York and then, since 1955, in Florida, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Alice went back to work after divorcing in the late 1960s, doing secretarial work and word processing in the banking industry until her retirement in 1988.

In the early 1980s, while taking her daily walks, she met fellow walker Douglas Brewer of Orlando, FL.  They developed a friendship which grew into a loving relationship and they became engaged to be married. Sadly, before this could occur, her fiancée passed away suddenly in 1990. He was a wonderful companion to her and brought joy and love to her life again.

She made many friends wherever she lived and worked and even had friends dating back to her childhood. She was a great correspondent, and kept in touch regularly with them.  She was an outgoing, compassionate, and loyal friend and was well loved.

Alice loved to travel, take photos, and kept wonderful scrapbooks of some of her trips. She enjoyed reading and doing word searches and loved animals, particularly hummingbirds and butterflies. She had a number of dogs and birds as pets, her last one a feisty little lovebird named Buddy that was her constant companion for 17 years.  She had a great memory and served as a valuable source of information for her niece in doing her genealogy research.  She also enjoyed doing volunteer work for Nature Conservancy.

Her friends and family will miss her greatly, but have many cherished memories of her.

It was not Alice’s wishes to have a formal funeral service. She planned a direct cremation and the family will have her ashes interred at a Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date.  Being remembered with love and a smile would be her best legacy!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ASPCA or a local  animal shelter.  Animal rescue and welfare were subjects close to her heart.
