Alma Mae Hooks

Alma Mae Hooks, 97, of Orlando, FL, died April 29, 2023, Altamonte Springs, FL. She was born on January 21, 1926, to Fred and Alicia Malone in Lakeland, FL.

Alma moved to Orlando and attended Grand Avenue Elementary School and Orlando High School. She was very active in her church, Delaney Street Baptist Church.

She married Gerald S. Hooks on December 30, 1949 and they had three children, Steven, Sharon, and Shirley. Alma was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed all types of crafts, but really enjoyed crocheting and sewing.

Alma is survived by her children: Steven G. Hooks (Sharen), Apopka, FL; Sharon H. Purvis (Dennis), Orlando, FL; Shirley A. Huber (John), Orlando, FL; her grandchildren: Geri L. Purvis, Orlando, FL; Nathan Purvis (Nikki), Orlando, FL; Stephanie Hooks Harmon (Steve) Apopka, FL, Stacey Hooks Fullen (Michael), Sorrento, FL; Jordan Huber, Orlando, FL; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Gerald S. Hooks (Husband), Fred Eugene Malone, Sr. (Father), Alicia Almira Koon Malone (Mother), Fred Eugene Malone, Jr. (Brother), Robert Lee Malone (Brother), Marie Malone Aldrich Voliva D’Orsi (Sister).

Visitation will be May 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Delaney Street Baptist Church, 1919 Delaney Avenue, Orlando, FL 32806.

Interment and private graveside service for family will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaney Street Baptist Church’s Capital Fund.
