Barton Stauffer

February 1, 1917 — April 15, 2017

Barton "Bart" Lester Stauffer, 100 years young, passed away peacefully at his home on Easter weekend. He was born February 1st, 1917 in Morgantown, PA, but grew up with his parents and older brother in Baltimore, MD. He returned to PA several summers in his teenage years to work on the family farm. At age 5, little did he know at the time, that he had met his future wife, Ruth Botzler, in vacation bible school. Bart & Ruth were happily married for 67 years until her passing in 2007. They had two daughters, Carol & Inez and the family moved to Orlando in 1959.

The day after Bart graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute & the Maryland Institute, where he studied engineering, he started working for the Glenn L. Martin Co. (now Lockheed Martin) in the mailroom. In his 47 years there he quickly worked his way up the ladder to Production Control Management during which time he worked on projects such as Disney's first monorail, Naval aircraft, rockets for the space program & many others.

Away from work, Bart found joy in helping others. When still in Maryland, he was very active in Govans Methodist Church and dedicated himself to becoming a part of the Masonic Order. On his 100th birthday, the Tuscan Masonic Lodge presented him with an award for 80 years of service. Upon coming to Orlando, Bart became a Shriner at Bahia Temple. He was active in the Drum & Bugle Corp and Transportation Team, helping transport crippled children to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Tampa. He & Ruth were also active volunteering for many years in local PGA/LPGA tournaments as well as the Disney Golf Classics & Lucerne Hospital. His spiritual life continued in Orlando with many years of dedication to First Presbyterian Church and later to First United Church of Christ. He also enjoyed golfing & playing cards with family & friends, who could always count on him to provide candy, laughter & support. We will miss him dearly!
