Bernard Mccrystal

August 17, 1932 — June 28, 2014

Bernard McCrystal of Orlando, Florida, with his family present, peacefully passed away to the Lord on Saturday evening, June 28th. He was born August 17, 1932, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force, which led him to Florida, where he met and married the love of his life, Bertie in November of 1953. After leaving the military and a year of working for Publix, he proudly became a member of the Orlando Police Department in 1961. He served at various assignments throughout his 21 year career. He retired from the Orlando Police Department in 1982 as a Captain. He was an avid Gator fan who rarely missed watching a game. He always enjoyed the comments he received Go Gators when he wore his gator attire. He was also a strong NASCAR fan, rooting for Mark Martin for years. Mac, Papa, and Pops as his friends and family called him, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved life and his family. Mac was a longtime member and parishioner of St. James Catholic Cathedral. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Bertie, sons Dana Lisa McCrystal, David McCrystal, and Darrel Julie McCrystal grandchildren Denis Mandy McCrystal, Dale Lisa McCrystal, Dustin Jennifer McCrystal, Lauren Ben McCrystal Gustafson, Nicole Louis McCrystal Desimone, Danielle Ricky McCrystal Geiger, Alex McCrystal , Colin McCrystal and 11 great grandchildren and 2 greatgreat grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Russell Home for Atypical Children, 510 Holden Avenue, Orlando, FL 32839.
