Bessie Ruth Hurley (Sally), passed away October 9, 2019 at 105 years of age. Born in Birmingham, Alabama to Robert Manuel & Bessie Mae Hernandez, on August 6, 1914, she was the oldest of three children. She attended Phillips High School in Birmingham and in 1936, married Robert Alfonso “Fons” Hurley, also of Birmingham. They settled there and had one child, Jane Randolph Hurley. They lived in Louisville, Kentucky after the war, then relocated to the College Park community of Orlando, Florida in 1952. Sally had many friends in the College Park community, attending and later working at College Park United Methodist Church until retiring in the early 1980s. After retirement, Sally enjoyed traveling with a group of friends but her warmest memories were when she spoke of her family and the city of her birth. She spent the remainder of her years living with her daughter and son-in-law. She will be greatly missed. Sally is survived by daughter, Jane Hurley McCoy, son-in-law, David Campbell McCoy, grandchildren, David Randolph McCoy, Michael David McCoy, Molly McCoy Townsend, and two great grandchildren, Laine and Reese. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 10AM at College Park United Methodist Church, 644 West Princeton Street, Orlando, FL 32804.
