Betty Jean Basila, a native Floridian, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the age of 89, just a few weeks shy of her 90th birthday.

She was the second daughter born to the late George and Pearl Fekany and a member of Bishop Moore’s inaugural graduating class of 1955. She was a devoted Catholic, heavily involved with the Syrian Lebanese American Club of Orlando and a supporter of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Betty was a world traveler, visiting over 15 countries with her husband and friends. However, nothing brought her more happiness than gathering her family together over the dinner table.

She is reunited in heaven with her parents, George and Pearl Fekany, her husband Joe Basila, sister Louise Malham, daughter Sandra Grether and son Anthony Basila.

Her legacy lives on through her children John (Sharon) Basila of Orlando, Florida, Theresa (Ron) Hawkins of Orlando, Florida, Richard (Sandra) Basila of Dacula, Georgia, her son in law Stephen (Gina) Grether of Orlando, Florida, daughter in law Laurie Basila of St George Island, Florida, 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral home on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 6pm-8pm and the funeral will take place at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a place close to Betty’s heart.
