Carol Jacobus

Carol Jean Kent Jacobus, age 78 of Orlando, FL. died peacefully in her sleep on April 26, 2025. Born July 31, 1946 in Winter Park, Florida, she was the daughter of John A. Kent Jr. and Harriette Ward Kent, both long time residents of Winter Park. She graduated from Winter Park High School in 1964 and continued her education at Orlando Junior College, eventually graduating from the University of South Florida where she received her Bachelors in Elementary Education. While in Tampa, she met William Foote Jacobus-her husband of 55 years-who was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. They were married in June 1968 and moved briefly to Illinois shortly afterward. Upon returning to Orlando, Carol began a long career with Orange County Public Schools spending all but one year teaching third grade exclusively at Orlo Vista Elementary School, and retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. In her free time, she enjoyed baking cakes for her friends and loved ones, often creating them for weddings and other special occasions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, John Alfred Kent. She is survived by her sons, Christopher K. Jacobus (Courtney) of Orlando, and William R. "Rusty" Jacobus of Detroit, MI; her sister, R. Elizabeth "Betti" Tomaszewski (Mike) of College Station, TX; and her brother, William B. "Bill" Kent. Her memory lives on through her two beloved grandchildren, Reilly and Kelley Jacobus, as well as her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her two dearest friends, Ann Alyea and Prissy VanSickle, whose lifelong companionship brought her great joy and comfort.

A private burial will be held at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park, FL.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30pm, Thursday May 15, 2025 at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home in Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to either Orlo Vista Elementary School or A Gift for Teaching.
