February 20, 1928 — November 5, 2016

DANIEL MARTIN LAMOS, Sr. 88, was called to his Heavenly Home on Nov. 5, 2016, as he passed away at his Orlando home in the presence of his family. He was born in Chicago, IL, on Feb. 20, 1928, to Ludvik & Maria Fabry Lamos. At 6 months old, his family moved to Slavia, FL, and then to Orlando, where Dan spent most of his 88 years. After graduating from Orlando High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on his 18th birthday. Returning back to Orlando in June 1947, he went to work as a mason apprentice and met Kathryn Ward. They married on Aug. 20, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Soon after, Dan started with the Orlando Fire Dept. and remained there for 10 years, resigning as a Lieutenant when he opened his own business, Central Florida Fire Equipment, Inc. Dan was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of South Orlando for over 20 years, President of NAFED (National Association of Fire Equipment Dealers), and the last original, surviving founder of Florida Fire Equipment Dealers Association. He was instrumental in bringing professionalism and integrity into the Fire Equipment industry in the state of Florida over 50 years ago and was recently honored at their 50th Anniversary Celebration.

After retiring from Central Florida Fire Equipment, Inc. in 1989, Dan and Kathryn bought a second home in Franklin, NC. Dan relished the beauty of the seasons and loved working in his gardens. Known to many as "Big Dan" - his fervent love and devotion for his faith and family were evident in all facets of his life. Watching his grandchildren & great-grandchildren play sports and perform in their activities brought him immense pleasure. He also loved hunting, fishing, sports, cooking, and traveling. During his early years in Orlando, Dan was a member of Trinity Lutheran and then Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for many decades. He was also a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Franklin, NC.

Dan is preceded in death by his 8 brothers and sisters and his loving wife, Kathryn, of 52 years.Their marriage was full of love and devotion to their faith and family. He is survived by his son, Daniel M. Lamos, Jr. (Charlene) of Orlando; and his daughters, Kathryn Lynn Oglesby (Eric Shrieves) of Orlando, and Susan K. Lief (Richard) of Winter Park. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michelle, Ryan, Jesse (Tera), Matthew (Caroline), Travis (Kym), Kevin, Jason (Mary), and Corey; and 12 great-grandchildren: Matt, Meghan, Trent, Madden, Tate, Connor, Tyler, Leeland, Eliyas, Riley, Bradley, and Naiomi.
