Donald L. Asher, Jr., passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 93. Asher was a pillar of the Orlando real estate community for 68 years following his graduation from the University of Florida in 1957 and serving in the Army from 1957 to 1959. His extensive service to his real estate profession included serving as former president of the Florida Realtors and the Orlando Regional Realtor® Association. Don was named Florida Realtors’ 2002 Realtor of the Year.
Asher served in leadership roles with more than 25 civic, community, and charitable organizations including the State of Florida Commission on Ethics, Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce, commissioner of the Florida Transportation Commission, Florida Jaycees, , United Cerebral Palsy of Florida and Central Florida, Orlando Housing Authority, Central Florida Goodwill, Central Florida Fair, Central Florida Crippled Children Society, and the Central Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America. Asher was recognized as one of the 5 Outstanding Young Men of Florida. He was the founder and chairman of two local banks. Don refereed high school football and basketball for 42 years.
Don’s wife of 47 years, Mary Jo, preceded him in death in 2010. He is survived by his son, Dean, and his wife, Wendy, his grandson, Reese, and his granddaughter, Morgan. His legacy will endure, and we will remember the impact he made in the community and the real estate profession.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road. The graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Orlando United Cerebral Palsy.
