Dorothy Gizzi

Dorothy Gizzi, Age 101 of Orlando FL, passed away peacefully on January 20th. Predeceased by her loving husband U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Earnest Gizzi in 1995. Dearest Grandmother of Edward and his wife Cathy FInella of Savannah, Ga; and John and his wife Cynthia Finella of Orlando; Proud Great-Grand Mother of Elizabeth and Danielle Finella; and Mother-in-Law to Anthony Bressi of Orlando. Predeceased by her son Alexander "Jim" Finella in 2017, and daughter Elizabeth Bressi in 2010.


Dorothy was born in Augusta, Ga in 1916 and lived around the world with her husband eventually settling in Orlando FL in 1960. Her accomplishments were many, as she was the first President of the Italian American Social Club Auxiliary, an officer in the Daughters of the Nile, first President of the ITAM War Veterans Auxiliary, and Officer in the Eastern Stars. In 1976 she was the Grand Royal Matron Order of the Amaranth for the State of Florida Court.


She was admired and loved by all that knew her. She lived a happy and prosperous life. When asked on her 100th birthday what her secret was for a long life she replied, "I didn't smoke, drink and liked vegetables more than meat. I avoided stress and remembered my Grand Mothers teachings. Life is all about choices, each choice you make plays a part of what you are and what you will become. And when I die do not mourn me I had a wonderful life."


The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, January 24th from 4-6pm at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Rd, Orlando; Funeral services will be held the follow day, Thursday, January 25th at 10am.
