Edwin Marshall Cathey, age 88, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away on July 5, 2026.

Ed was born on September 23, 1937, in Jonesboro, Louisiana to Emmett and Iris Cathey. He grew up in Castor and was the Castor High School Class of 1955 senior class president. He went on to earn a BS degree in Accounting from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana and was a Certified Public Accountant.

He served in the U.S. Army for 2½ years, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant before continuing his service in the Army Reserves. After his military service he worked for ExxonMobil for 34 years, rising to the position of Controller. Ed worked in Houston, Texas then moved to overseas subsidiaries in London, England, Sydney, Australia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Bogota, Colombia, and Oslo, Norway. He retired in 1993 to Asheville, North Carolina and in 2019 moved to Winter Park, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents Iris and Emmett D. Cathey, his brothers Charles L Cathey and Jerry K. Cathey, and sister Marjorie D Cathey.

Ed is survived by his wife of 70 years Barbara Myrick Cathey, two sons - Edwin M. Cathey Jr of Wilmington, North Carolina and Rodney W. Cathey of Orlando, Florida - and daughter Deborah Cathey Tual of Stamford, Connecticut, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

A private burial and memorial service will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in Sparta, Louisiana at a future time.
