Elsa
Gordon
Aug 13, 1934 — Oct 1, 2026
Elsa Gordon, 92, passed away on October 1, 2026. A beloved mother and a woman of remarkable strength and independence, Elsa’s life was defined by perseverance, hard work, generosity, and devotion to her family.
Elsa grew up in humble circumstances and lost her father at a very young age. From childhood, she developed the strength and determination that would remain with her throughout her life.
As a young woman, Elsa married and began raising her family. In 1958, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and child, having sold their belongings to purchase plane tickets and begin a new life. She learned English and earned her GED while pursuing U.S. citizenship in the early 1960s.
Elsa was the mother of three children, Ed, Walter, and Susan. She endured the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Susan, at just a year and a half old in 1965.
Determined to continue her education, Elsa later earned her college degree after her sons were grown, studying in her spare time after work. She went on to become an adjudicator for the State of Florida Unemployment Office, where she dedicated more than 30 years of service before retiring in 2002.
Elsa’s devotion to those she loved was evident throughout her life. She lovingly cared for her terminally ill husband until his passing in 2001 and remained deeply generous to her sons throughout their adult lives. She also supported various children’s charities, reflecting her compassion for others.
Throughout the 2000s, Elsa faced numerous major surgeries and illnesses with the same resilience that had carried her through so many chapters of her life.
From arriving in the United States with very little to building a life, raising a family, pursuing an education, establishing a long career, and caring for those around her, Elsa lived with determination and an unwavering independent spirit. Her strength, generosity, and dedication to her family will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
