Helen G. Cowan

Helen G. Cowan, age 84, of Orlando, FL, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023.  She was born in 1938 in Red Bay, Alabama to her parents Benjamin Franklin Garrett and Emma Adline (Ridge) Garrett.  She married in 1957 and later became a single parent around 1967, raising her two sons in Orlando, FL.  Helen worked for many years prior to her retirement.  Helen had many hobbies and enjoyed cooking, shopping, gardening, and spending time with her family and her beloved two Persian cats.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her eldest son, Donald E. Cowan who passed away in 2020.

Helen is survived by her son Jack D. Cowan; sister, Iva Nell Garrett; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Helen was an amazing mother with a gentle soul, always welcoming, lending a non-judgmental listening ear, and provided the wisest of advice.  She was far ahead of her time in her approach to life and how she maneuvered the societal expectations of her time.  She was by all measures a great lady who was much loved and will be deeply missed.

As per the family's wishes, memorial services will remain a private, unscheduled event.
