Helen Ione Say Hoffman passed away June 10, 2014 at Serenades by Sonata in Winter Garden, Fl.
Helen was born August 23, 1924 in Franklin, Pa. She graduated from Cranberry High School, Seneca, Pa. in 1942. She attended Chicago Evangelistic Institute, where she met William Frederick Hoffman. They were married June 13, 1946 in Seneca, Pa. They served Methodist churches in Michigan before Bill earned a Masters of Divinity at Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. During this time Helen worked as an Executive Secretary for Bell Telephone in Lexington, Ky..
In 1954 Bill became a Clergy Member of the Florida Annual Conference of the Methodist Church and they were appointed to serve Carrabelle Methodist Church in the Florida Panhandle. During this time Helen completed her BA in Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee Fl. In 1956 Bill enlisted as a Chaplain in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth NH. They went on to serve tours of duty at RAF Fairford in England McCoy Air Force Base in Orlando Fl., and Misawa AFB in Japan. During their time in Orlando Helen completed her Masters Degree in Education at Rollins College.
After Bill completed his Air Force career they settled in Orlando. She taught geography at Memorial Middle School and West Ridge Middle School in Orlando for many years. She served as Chair of her Department and was very active in teaching associations. Helen became an accomplished quilter winning many awards with her artistic talent. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Orlando faithfully attending the TurnerTorrance Sunday School Class.
Helen is survived by two sons Rev. Stephen Hoffman, David Hoffman, and a daughter Mrs. Rebecca S. Matz as well as five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Rev. Paul Say, and two sisters Jean Carroll and Lois Allen.
