Howard Van Deest Jr.
August 13, 1936 - September 11, 2025
Howard Van Deest Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
Born in Hastings, Nebraska, Howard was raised on a family farm where he developed a lifelong respect for hard work and rural values. He attended Hartford High School in Croton, Ohio, where he was an active and talented athlete, playing both football and basketball. He later attended LeTourneau College in Longview, Texas.
In 1954, Howard met the love of his life, Nora. They were married in 1958 and spent 62 loving years together until her passing in 2020. Their marriage was a foundation of love, partnership, and devotion that inspired all who knew them.
Howard balanced life as both a dedicated farmer-raising grain and cattle-and a skilled machinist in the aerospace industry. He retired from Lockheed Martin after a long and accomplished career.
Outside of work, Howard loved the outdoors and had many hobbies, including boating, water skiing, fishing, camping, and bowling. He found joy in sharing these passions with his family.
Howard's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his children: Lisa, Leslie, Michael, and Jessica; grandchildren: Kirsten, Zachary, Madison, Andy, Justin, Michael Christian, and Christopher; and great-grandchildren: Soraya, Tallulah, Julian, Gianna, and Malia. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Hegenberger; sister-in-law Donna Topping; brother-in-law Jerry (Marna) Topping; sister-in-law Carol Van Deest; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nora, and his parents, Howard Van Deest and Velma Walther.
A burial service will take place at Orlando Memorial Gardens in Apopka, Florida, under the care of Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home.
Howard will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep love for his family, and the legacy of kindness and dedication he leaves behind.
