Idena Laverne Baker was born on August 15, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Alfred E. Burnett an immigrant from Barbados, and the late Idena Burnett an immigrant from Panama.
Idena grew up and attended schools in Brooklyn New York. Which included Midwood high school, from where she graduated not only gaining a diploma but lifelong friendships. She then furthered her education by attending the College of New Rochelle where she obtained her bachelors degree.
In the 1980's she began her career with The Metropolitan Transit Authority as a bus operator. Being a person of and for the people, with a heart of solid gold she extended her services as a union steward for the TWU local 100 . Despite her having to battle cancer, she continued working for the MTA changing positions by working in the union office and subsequently became a Property Protection agent. As her health continued to improve she had returned to her original position as a Bus Operator from where she retired after 28 years of service for the MTA.
Throughout life, Idena had received many awards and certifications, and can be considered a real jack of all trades. With hobbies and passions in so many areas including but not limited to fashion design, modeling, crocheting and cosmetology. She also had a great a love for music and travel which she shared with her family. Idena was also a notary public, and a certified tax preparer. However her most cherished accomplishment was being licensed nail technician, educator and certified state board examiner with recent certifications, in the latest trends of the trade.
Idena leaves behind to cherish and celebrate her life her husband, Anthony Baker, son, Tomas Burnett, daughters, Taheerah Baker, and Sheina Pusey daughter-in-law, Rasheeda, 20 grand children, 2 great grandchildren, a cousin William Bowman, sister Helene Riley and a host of nieces, nephews, and God children who will all miss her dearly!
