Joe Finger

January 29, 1934 — December 17, 2021

Joe E. Finger, Sr., 87, of Orlando, passed away December 17, 2021. Joe was born
January 29, 1934, in Lincolnton, NC, to Joseph and Lorena Finger. His father was a
minister and his mother a homemaker. Joe graduated from Winecoff High School in
Concord, NC, and later attended Trevecca College and East Tennessee State University
where he majored in sociology before moving to Orlando in 1957. Blessed with the heart
of a teacher and lifelong desire to help others, Joe was a physical education instructor
early in his career at Rock Lake Elementary School and later worked for the Orlando
Utilities Commission and General Waterworks Corporation of Winter Park. Joe is
survived by sons Joe Finger, Jr. (Andrea) and TIm Finger both of Orlando. He was
preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Finger, and former wife, Carol Finger.
Joe was a quiet, kind-hearted and sentimental man known to tear up easily when talking
about those he loved. North Carolina born and raised, Joe was an avid fisherman and
huge Tar Heels basketball fan. He also loved the New York Yankees, but his family -
especially his Red Sox Nation daughter-in-law - forgave him of that indiscretion years
ago. A celebration of life is planned for January at a date to be announced.
