John C.
Hanlon
Aug 4, 1942 — Dec 18, 2024
Tallahassee
John Culbreth Hanlon, aged 82, a longtime resident of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, in hospice care, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on August 4, 1942, in Orlando Florida, to John and Edna Mae Hanlon (née Culbreth). After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Florida State University, where he was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honor society, he served four years as a captain in the US Army stationed in Germany. There, he met his first wife, the late Susan Deasy. He returned to Florida State University for a Master of Fine Arts degree before embarking on a long and varied career that included advertising, marketing, graphic design and later, fine art sales. He served as Creative Director of Franceschi Advertising and co-founded Hamilton, Hanlon & Associates, a creative design firm. Combining a love of art with a talent for business, he founded John Hanlon & Associates, dealing in fine paintings across the southern United States. He was founder of The Art House and co-owner of the Deans Hanlon Gallery in Tallahassee. He later relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, working as a gallerist for over a decade. In 2005 he returned to Tallahassee and married his second wife, the late Madalyn Barton. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his creativity, quick intelligence, and generous spirit.
He is survived by his cousins and their families, in addition to numerous friends, clients, and colleagues. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, with a reception for friends and family afterward.
