Lewis Zia
Veto
May 1, 1956 — Sep 10, 2026
Lewis Veto, 70, of Davenport, Florida, passed away on September 10, 2026. He was born in Kirkuk, Iraq.
Lewis was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother, and the kind of man who showed up. He never missed a holiday, a birthday, or a special event. For years he drove an hour each way, six days a week, to get his daughter Giavanna to Tae Kwon Do, because he wanted her to be able to defend herself, and he was there for every belt test and every tournament. Gia's friends were treated like his own kids. When she was little and wanted to swim in the inflatable pool in the backyard, he would sit beside it and giggle with her, and grill dinner for everyone afterward.
He adored his wife, Dori. The two of them were married in Las Vegas, which stayed his favorite place in the world. Some of their happiest hours were the plainest ones: taking the car out with no particular destination, running to the store for something sweet, stopping for ice cream on the way home. He loved his daughter, Giavanna, and his son-in-law, Christian, with his whole heart.
Lewis loved to cook, especially Assyrian food, and took real pleasure in making big meals for his family. He loved music, and he loved to sing and dance. He loved lifting weights, traveling, Disney World and Universal, his guns and days at the range, and every pet he ever brought home. He loved Florida, the sunshine, and being in the pool. He loved his church and his faith.
And he was funny. On one trip to Vegas, the family went to see Toni Braxton in concert. In the middle of a song the music dropped out and she held a long pause, and into that silence, loud enough for the whole audience to hear, Lewis called out, "You go girl!" She cracked up before she finished the song. That was Lewis.
He was kind and generous and would give you the shirt off his back. He had a very big heart, and he could always be counted on to be there when you needed him.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Zia Jelou Fetyou and Welentina Slawah, brothers Hermiz Fetyou and David Veto, and by his brother-in-law Edward Kaloo.
He is survived by his wife, Dori; his daughter, Giavanna, and her husband, Christian; his sister-in-law, Mariela Fetyou; his sister Marlin Kaloo and her family, Betty (John), Manny (Lisa), Jimmy (Jenny), Vivian (Rico), and Vicky (Robert) and their families; his sister Doren Fetyou and her children, Esther (Michael) and family, Miriam, and Eshoo and family; his sister Noura Fetyou children Sharbel and Natalie; and his brother Albert Fetyou and his wife, Carmen, and their family, Talisha and her family and Jamie (Marisa) and family.
