Luis Vel, 96, beloved Father and Grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on June 17, 2026. He entered this world on May 20, 1930, in Santiago de Cuba. Luis came to the United States in 1970 in search of opportunity and a better future. Like so many who leave behind everything familiar, he arrived with determination, courage and an unwavering commitment to building a life for his family. Through hard work, sacrifice and perseverance, he created opportunities for his children and provided them with a foundation of love and support.

Family was the center of his world. While he was a devoted father, his greatest joy came from being a grandfather. He treasured every moment he spent with his grandchildren and took immense pride in watching them grow. Whether cheering them on in sports, music or dance events or simply enjoying their company, the time he spent with them meant everything to him.

He was a lifelong sports fan who rarely missed a chance to watch his favorite teams play. He found joy in gardening and enjoyed sharing tips with his children, none of whom inherited his green thumb.

A humble and private man, Luis never sought recognition or attention. He lived a quiet, simple life guided by his love for God and his family. His actions spoke louder than words, and the example he set through his dedication and selflessness will continue to inspire those who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind.

Luis is survived by his son Julio Vel (Niurka); his daughter Maribel Vel; his son Jon Vel (Stephanie); his son Jean Carlos Vel (Cristine); his daughter Cynthia Glover (Nathon); and his grandchildren Alejandro, Luis, Claudia, Rhys, Ava, Amelia, Julian, Ari, Ana, and Gian Marco.

He is preceded in death by his son, Luis Alberto Vel.
