Mary Elizabeth Sheffield (Jackson) was born in Anderson, Indiana on Sept 03, 1926, from parents Roy Jackson and Ruby M Jackson (Garriott). Mary Elizabeth Jackson married Valton Sheffield on Oct 27, 1947, in Miami, Florida. They were married 60 years before his passing and lived in Belle Glade, Lake City and Orlando throughout her husband's career with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Roy I Sheffield, wife Pamela (Sissy) and children Brooke, Brett, Lacey, Codey, Amanda, Jeff and Breanna and their 18 children. In addition to 24 great grandchildren, she has 5 great great grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than having her family all together for celebrations whether it be lasagna for 30 and a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve or weekend babysitting for the grandchildren. Her love was unconditional and you were always welcome. If you happen by at mealtime, you will eat. No one leaves hungry and she got great joy in cooking. Her favorite pastime was sewing. From large projects like curtains to baby clothes and bibs, she loved helping others. She was known for her famous scratch biscuits, oven fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, banana pudding and strawberry preserves that she lovingly made at Christmas tied in a red bow for neighbors and family. Chicken and dumplings, biscuits and preserves is a tradition carried on by her great grandson Austin and granddaughter Summer.
Mary worked at Winter Park Hospital as an LPN for 5 years and an RN at Florida Hospital (Advent Health) for 18 years. She joined Eastern Star in 1947 and remained a member for 50 years. She was a member of Goss Memorial Methodist church and Parkway Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and participated in the choir. She was also a Cub Scout Den mother for her sons.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Valton Sheffield, Siblings: Joe Jackson, Sara Ryan, Charlotte Curl, Phillip Jackson, Rosella Wiatt, Dale Brown, Joyce Brown, Judy Sellers, Johnny Brown, David Brown and parents Ruby and Roy Jackson.
Mary prayed for each family member individually every night. She will be remembered for her “softie” pillows made with satin and lace for cancer patients, babies, family and friends.
Mary loved and devoted her life to the Lord, family, friends and as a servant to others.
Her favorite passages were:
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”
Her favorite hymns were How Great thou art, Amazing grace, Raise me up, He touched me and Because he lives.
Mary passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on April 04, 2026. The world lost an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend, but Heaven gained another angel to watch over her loved ones.
We love and miss you ❤️
