Richard Bruce Anderson

Beloved husband, father and friend, Richard "Dick" Anderson entered his heavenly rest on July 29, 2025 in Winter Park, FL. He was born Oct 12, 1933 in Cheswick, PA to Edgar Bruce and Elizabeth Marion Meanor Anderson. He spent his youth in York, PA, surrounded by wonderful relatives who instilled in him great faith and a strong work ethic.

After a brief move to Bradenton, FL to allow Dick to recover from rheumatic fever, the family moved back to Pittsburgh, where he graduated from Dormont High School in 1951. During his youth, he began a lifelong journey of becoming an accomplished Bridge player. This skill never wavered, even until his final days! His love of Florida and those beautiful beaches beckoned, so he pulled up roots again and attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. While standing in line for Freshmen Orientation, he met the love of his life, June Heath! During his years at FSC, he became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Accounting. The day after graduation, Dick and June married and started their life together in Orlando, FL.

Dick received his CPA license in 1958 and began his career of auditing and financial management, offering wise financial strategies and advice to clients, family and friends. After many years in public accounting (Potter, Bower and Co. which merged with Ernst & Ernst CPA's Accounting Firm), he became the Chief Financial Officer of Miller Bearings, Inc. for 13 years, and lifelong trustee. He then transitioned to Treasurer and CFO of the Presbyterian Retirement Communities (now Westminster Retirement Communities).

Dick was a gentle, honest, devoted man, whose integrity and joy of living shaped everything he touched. He and June raised 3 boys who followed in those footsteps. His love of board games was passed on to his boys and their friends. His hobby of model railroad trains led to a family project of building a whole village in their garage. Beach vacations became favorite destinations for years to come. And rooting on "his" Pittsburgh Steelers was a given! Soon there were daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-children added to the family who loved him dearly.

A strong faith guided Dick's heart and soul. His community involvement included Kiwanis (president of the local chapter), The Heart Association (chairman), and the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park (trustee, treasurer and member of the Seeker Sunday School Class). These gave him many opportunities to make great friends and make a difference for good. He was instrumental in organizing the framework for the formation of the church's foundation that has benefitted many over the years. The friendships made through church family, his business endeavors and even their bridge-playing groups surrounded them with joy for decades.

Dick was predeceased in death by his son, Philip Heath Anderson. He is survived by June, his loving wife of 70 years; his two sons: Richard Steven (Denise) and Carl Bruce (Laura-Grace); 5 grandchildren: Melanie Goehle (Matt), Heath Anderson (Brianna), Wesley Anderson (Rachael), Richard Anderson and William Anderson; 6 great-grandchildren: Norah, Levi, James, Stella, Mason and Avett; and many cousins.

A service of celebration for his life will be held at First United Methodist Church Winter Park sanctuary on Monday, August 4, 2025 at 2:00pm
