Richard Andrew Jones
September 19, 1951 - January 10, 2026
Richard Andrew Jones, lovingly known as "The Big Fish," passed away on January 10, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, music, and love. Born on September 19, 1951, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Richard later made his home in Orlando, Florida, where he built a life filled with friendship, family, and unforgettable moments.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel "Munk" Jones and Sarah "Polly" Jones, and by his siblings James Jones and Victoria Russell. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kristine Jones; his children, Tristin Jones, Richard Jones Jr., and Emily Jones Adkins; and his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Kaitlyn, and Lillie, who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his sister Linda Cook; his cousins Ken Russell, Mike Russell, and Don Russell; and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
For over 30 years, Richard proudly worked for Delta Airlines, where he was known for his dedication, professionalism, and kindness. He also served with the Orlando Police Department and the Orlando Convention Center, always finding ways to contribute to his community and help others.
Richard was a natural storyteller - so much so that he earned the nickname "The Big Fish." Whether he was sharing tales from work, family adventures, or life's little surprises, his stories always came with humor, warmth, and a twinkle in his eye. A true music enthusiast, Richard could talk for hours about his favorite songs, and he never missed a chance to quote his beloved The Big Lebowski ("The Dude abides") or break into a joyful "More cowbell!" from Saturday Night Live.
Above all else, Richard was known for his big heart. He was always smiling, always compassionate, and always willing to put others before himself. He showed his love through laughter, through listening, and often through food - especially when he was cooking or firing up the grill for one of his famous BBQs. Sharing a meal with Richard meant sharing in his love.
Richard's legacy lives on in the stories we will keep telling, the music we will keep playing, and the laughter that will always remind us of him. He taught us how to enjoy life, care deeply, and never take ourselves too seriously.
The Big Fish may have swam on, but his ripples will be felt forever.
