Richard Priewe

April 9, 1929 — September 7, 2022

Richard J. Priewe, Orlando, FL, passed away peacefully in his Sleep on Wednesday night, September 7, 2022. Richard was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on April 9, 1929, the son of the late Paul and Laura (Barlament) Priewe. While in high school, he won the State title in boxing of Wisconsin in the lightweight division. Richard entered the Air force in 1947 and retired in 1969 as Captain with Military Honors. While stationed in Wiesbaden, West Germany as a U.S. Air Force S/Sgt. he met and married Gerda Linke on January 19, 1952. They were married over 52 years, and had 9 children. They moved to Orlando in 1965 and still resided at the same address for the last 57 years. He attended Florida Southern University in Lakeland, FL from Sept. 1967 to August 1969. He graduated with a BS in Business Administration. (while working full time and raising 9 Children). Richard was a nature lover, and loved visiting the Smokey Mountains with his wife annually in the fall to see the leaves changing color. After her passing, he continued the yearly tradition with his children. Richard was a devoted Catholic and loved volunteering for the church, and regularly donated to the food pantry. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church for 48 years. He was an avid Stamp & Coin collector, and enjoyed attending estate & garage sales with his children. Richard also hosted his own yard sales with assistance from his children. Richard was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan for the last 83 years. Some of his family and closest friends called him “Papa Packer”. He attended his first Packers’ game in 1939 at the age of 10. Before Lambeau Stadium was constructed, the Packers played at Green Bay East High School. As a mischievous teen, he would occasionally sneak into a game. He was a loyal member of the Central Florida Packer Backers for three decades. He attended many games with family & friends and enjoyed tailgating before the big game. And if the game was on TV, all were invited in, to sit down, be quiet and watch the game. Richard was also a UCF Golden Knights fan and had seasonal passes to the games and always attended with family. He was a Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, a friend to many and will be lovingly remembered and sorrowfully missed. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Gerda in 2004, three brothers: David (Phyllis) Priewe, Dan Priewe, Tony Priewe, and one sister: Lorraine E. Smith.  He leaves behind three sisters: Virginia Mongin, Loretta Meyers, Margaret (Tim) Eggen, and two sisters-in-law: Jan Priewe and Carol Priewe. Memories of his strong convictions will forever resonate within his 9 children and 9 grandchildren (and several great grand-Children).
