Obituary for Robert (Bob) Gordon Weller
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Gordon Weller, who departed this life on June 2 , 2025, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 97. Born on September 30, 1927, in Mersea Island, Essex, England, Bob emigrated to New York in 1948 after serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF).
On June 7, 1958, Bob married the love of his life, Doris A. Weller; his father told him that “she was a keeper,” and he always agreed. Together, they enjoyed 67 wonderful years filled with love and laughter. Doris taught ballet, and Bob taught ballroom - they were magic on the dance floor together.
A passionate musician, Bob was an accomplished violinist who brought joy to many through his music. He played with the University of Central Florida Orchestra for 13 years. Also, he contributed his talents to the Maitland Symphony Orchestra, leaving a lasting impact on those who heard him perform. His children listened to him practice each evening as they went to bed. When his daughter was 2, he took her to a string quartet; the first of many.
Bob was a great soccer player. “Bobby” Weller of the Great Neck Booters (Long Island, NY) was described in the local news as playing a remarkable game with his trickery in evading the enemy defenders…” He was quick and he was nimble.
Professionally, Bob dedicated 23 years as an electrician for Orange County Government Florida. Eventually, he acquired his electrical contractor's license, which Orange County used for permitting.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, and their two children: daughter Rebecca Weller Holderread (Atlanta, married to Barry Holderread) and son Robert Peter Weller (Orlando). Bob was a proud PopPop to Emma Holderread and Helen Holderread, who filled his life with immense joy and laughter– he was very proud of them.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest George Weller and Ida Victoria Weller, and his siblings: Ernest Weller, Samuel Weller, Walter Weller, Marian Litz, and Janet Kehl. His siblings surviving him are Audrey Loukides (Connecticut) and Eric Weller (New York), along with many loving and supportive nieces and nephews.
Bob's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, patience, strong character, and the love he shared with family and friends. Bob was a true “English Gentleman.” He was a genuinely nice person; he loved his family unconditionally. He was a father who was present in the lives of his children. “Pop” changed diapers, fed bottles, played soccer with his children, and cooked most dinners. He attended sporting and school events, and other activities important to Rebecca and Peter.
He showed unwavering encouragement to his children, even helping his son Peter by performing on a studio demo tape to support his music. In 1994, Bob went to a rock concert to see the band ‘Boston.’ He went backstage and enjoyed steak and crab legs with some of the members of the band! He did not know how unusual this was…he just fit right in! Bob's ability to connect with others, whether through his music or simply being himself, was evident during that unforgettable night.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on August 9, 2025, at the Carey Hand Funeral Home, 2811 East Curry Ford Road, Orlando, Florida 32806, at 11:00 AM, with a reception following.
