Sara Johnson

Sara Ann Johnson, 92, of Plymouth, FL, died September 7, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Tibby McDonald, who lovingly cared for her the last decade of her life. Sara was born to the late James and Sarah Partridge Johnson on October 20, 1921, in Coleman, FL. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Marion F. Laddie McDonald, Jr., siblings Mary Louise Cartwright, Harry Johnson and Robert Johnson. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Frances E. Dry, New Smyrna daughters Sarena Tanner, Kennesaw, GA, Becky Apple Jerry, Brown Summit, NC and Tibby McDonald, Orlando, FL, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren with another due in November.
Sara graduated from Orlando High School, Class of 39, and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Mount Dora, FL. Sara was a driver for the Red Crossstatewide during World War II, meeting planes and trains to bring injured soldiers home and deliver supplies. She was a member of The Flying Farmers and crowned queen in 1957. She and her exhusband, Mac, hosted many fly ins and Sunday school picnics at their Plymouth home which burned in October, 72.
Sara was a devoted, active parent who stayed busy volunteering at her childrens school, as a sports team mom for her son and for her daughters. She was the best horse show mom everat shows all across the state. For many years, she served as a Girl Scout leader and she was known for her big heart for all creaturesgreat and small. She was a remarkable lady and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Saras life will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 11:00am at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Saras honor to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, your local childrens home or Animal Rescue.
A mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take.
