Dr. Thomas Chambers, Sr.

July 27, 1934 — November 3, 2025

Thomas Eugene Chambers Sr., Tom, Dad, Papaw, Doc moved on to heaven November 3, 2025 in Orlando, Florida due to complications of Dementia/Alzheimers Disease.

He was reunited with Ruth Ann Augenstein Chambers, his wife of 55 years before she went home April 2008 and grandson, Nathan Chambers who went home in 2020.

Tom and Ruth Ann met as young children and lived a couple of blocks from each other growing up. Their parents served at the same church. High School found their friendship turning to sweethearts and they were wed in 1953. Tom always said Ruth Ann was the smart one because of her straight A's and National Honor Roll in High School.

Tom was a faithful husband, father, friend and Family Physician. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, was in the Navy in Memphis, TN, completed Medical School in Des Moines, Iowa, moved to Florida to complete Residency and moved to Orlando to practice Family Medicine. He was a Family Doc who sewed stitches, took x-rays and set breaks in the office, delivered many babies including twins and the only set of triplets at Orlando General Hospital (AdventHealth East Orlando) before sonograms to reveal more than one baby was on the way. He was a trusted and respected physician.

He was a steadfast friend and counselor to many over the years, helping friends and family navigate the more difficult things in life, he didn't shy away from hard.

He was a piano player, singer, repair man, golfer, tennis player, jewelry maker (from silver he refined from his x-ray machine) photographer, traveler and lover of sweets. After retiring, he immersed himself in helping others with all kinds of projects, like home repairs, renovations and computer repairs. He was a helper in all ways - taking great satisfaction in helping with solutions to make others' lives more enjoyable.

Member of First Baptist Orlando for 50 years - he served on multiple committees, one of his favorite was the Memorial Prayer Garden. He and Ruth Ann helped commission the artist for the bronze sculpture of Jesus at the entrance.

Tom was known for his quick wit. He brought a sense of humor everywhere he went.

He cared for and protected his family with a fierceness that never left him, even in his last years - he was concerned for and looking out for his family as best as he could.

He is survived by his children, Gene (Vicki) Chambers, Susan (Jim) Wazny, Judy (Stephen) Williams, Becky (Steve) Lewis, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.

The family will have a private ceremony at a later date. Donations may be made, at his wish, to the First Baptist Orlando Memorial Prayer Gardens.https://firstorlando.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/4391/responses/new

Thomas Eugene Chambers 1934-2025 is whole, complete, no longer missing Ruth Ann and praising his savior now. His presence here will be deeply missed by those who called him Dad, Papaw, Tommy, Uncle, Doc, friend.
