It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Edward Opper, a loving husband, devoted friend, and dedicated artist, who left us on February 8, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on February 18, 1949, in Pennsylvania, Tom was cherished by his family and friends throughout his life. After relocating to Connecticut, he formed bonds that would last a lifetime, before moving to Florida in search of warmer weather.
Tom began his career as a union painter with the Painters and Allied Trades Local 1010 District Council 78 in Orlando. For many years, he was proud to lend his talents to the enchanting structures of Disney World, where his artistry helped shape the beloved landscapes that brought joy to countless visitors. In December 2015, Tom retired from the union, swapping his brushes and traditional white painter's uniform for the comfort of his LazyBoy and the warmth of family time.
Soon after his retirement, Tom and his beloved wife, Deidra, embarked on an adventurous journey across various states, from New England to California. This allowed them to reconnect with family and friends, creating treasured memories along the way.
In recent months, Tom faced health challenges, including difficulties with his breathing. He was hospitalized at Florida Hospital Winter Park, where he fought bravely until the end. His departure leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him.
Tom will always be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering love for his family, and the countless friendships he nurtured throughout his life.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Opper and Luverne Opper.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on February 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, located at 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32806. Family and friends are invited to gather, celebrate his life, and share their memories.
Tom's ashes will be lovingly scattered at 862 Mary's Park Place, Winter Garden, FL 34787, where he will remain close to those he loved most. He will be missed deeply, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
