Vivian Maria McCartney (Caragan)
Vivian, a radiant soul whose laughter lit up every room and whose warmth touched countless lives, passed away peacefully in Orlando, FL. on November 2, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born in May 1931, in the lakefront city of Superior, Wisconsin and raised in the small town of Patzau by her loving parents Gust and Signa Caragan.
Vivian graduated from Central High School in Superior, where she was an honor student, participated in the chorus, promoted the Prom, and met her future husband, Edward. Vivian embarked on her greatest adventure when she married Lieutenant Colonel Edward G. McCartney, on March 31, 1951. Together, they built a beautiful family while he served his country with distinction as a Radar-Navigator-Bombardier on B-52 bombers in the United States Air Force. Through relocations, deployments, and the rhythms of military life, Vivian was the steadfast heart of their home.
Devoted mother to three cherished children—Debra Ellen Hartman, Jeffrey James McCartney, and Desiree Lisa McCartney (Martin), Vivian poured her boundless energy into creating a home filled with love, creativity, and lively conversation. She joyfully raised the kids while being an active member of the Officer’s Wives Club, and fulfilling her passions of decorating and painting, at which she was quite accomplished. For many years, she brought her vibrant personality to the bustling Gift Shop on International Drive in Orlando, where she was the Buyer and Manager. Her creative spirit extended to the bridge table too, where she delighted in spirited games with her beloved bridge groups, always ready with a clever quip or a welcoming smile. In her later years, she traveled the world with her friend, Harold, venturing to Dubai, Egypt and Europe.
Vivian was, above all, vivacious. She loved nothing more than engaging with people—sharing stories, offering kindnesses, and forging connections that lasted a lifetime. Her enthusiasm for life was contagious, and her legacy lives on in every heart she touched where she will be missed dearly.
Vivian is survived by her three children and their families. Daughter, Debra Ellen Hartman, Son, Jeffrey McCartney and his wife, Jaila Mahalhaes, and her Granddaughter Jessica McCartney and Great Grandsons Porter and Christian. and Daughter, Desiree Martin (Atlanta) and her husband, Chuck and grandchildren Cameron and Olivia.
A celebration of Vivian’s remarkable life will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32812.
