Wayne Pilgrim, Sr.

Wayne "Leon" Pilgrim, Sr. was born June 11, 1931 in Gainesville (Hall County), Georgia and went to be with his Lord and Savior November 17, 2021 in the comfort of his home in Sanford, FL.  He moved his family to Orlando, FL in 1968.  Leon retired from Property Management as a Vice President/Regional Sales Manager with Chateau Communities, Inc. He is also retired from military service after serving 21 years in the Army National Guard Reserves.  He and his family were members of First Baptist Church in Orlando for over 40 years.  He served as a Deacon, Usher, and Sunday School Teacher often being involved with many youth activities.  In 2005, he and his wife moved to Sanford, FL.  Where, until his health would not allow, he attended Grace United Methodist and Seminole Community Church.

Leon is survived by his wife of 73 years, Hazel Francis Christy Pilgrim. Leon and Hazel have known each other since 2nd grade.  Together they have two adult children: Wayne L. Pilgrim, Jr (Lisa Pilgrim) and Jeannine Christy Pilgrim Rape (Stephen Rape).  In addition, he is survived by 4 grandchildren: Heather Leigh Pilgrim Osburn (Chad Osburn), Mark Grady Pilgrim (Janice Mikolajczak), Brandon Christopher Rape (Lily Coble) and Makayla Christy Rape.  Leon and Hazel also have 4 great grand children: Ryleigh Hazel Pilgrim, Grady Nolan Pilgrim, Avery Gray Rape and Everett Coltrane Rape.   He was predeceased by his father R.O. Pilgrim and mother Sara Eufaula Aiken Pilgrim and his sisters Betty Caroline Pilgrim Dale (E.C. Dale) and Jeannine Pilgrim.   Leon will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 27, 2021 in a Private Family Graveside Service at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, FL officiated by Pastor Jerry Walsh of Seminole Community Church.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or Seminole Community Church (P O Box 471284, Lake Monroe, FL 32747-1284     ).  You may leave the family any words of encouragement and/or remembrances of Leon through the Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home at www.careyhandcolonialfh.com.
