William Winfield Royal (Bill), 85, passed away at home on June 22, 2026, just six days shy of his 86th birthday. He was born on June 28, 1940, in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, including service during the Vietnam War. His military service was a source of great pride, reflecting the honor, courage, and dedication that defined his life.
Above all else, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. On January 2, 1965, Bill married Doris Faye Goff, his lifelong partner and best friend. Together they shared more than 61 years of marriage—a remarkable testament to enduring love, unwavering commitment, and the family they built together. Through every chapter of life, they remained each other's greatest source of strength, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Faye Royal; his daughter, Victoria Lynn Gross; his cherished grandsons, Cody Scott Gross and Tyler William Gross; and his sisters, Sudie Rutherford and Virginia McGranahan.
Nothing brought Bill greater joy than his family. He was especially proud of his grandsons. Cody proudly carries on his grandfather's legacy through his own service in the United States Air Force, a source of tremendous pride for Bill. Tyler, who proudly bears his grandfather's name, held a special place in Bill's heart. The love Bill shared with both of his grandsons was immeasurable, and they will forever carry his memory, values, and example with them.
Bill also treasured the friendships he made throughout his life. One of his greatest joys was gathering with his friends twice each week for card games—time filled with laughter, friendly competition, and camaraderie that he looked forward to every week.
Bill will be remembered for his strength, quiet determination, unwavering sense of duty, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him. His legacy of service, integrity, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at VFW Post 4287, 3500 South Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida 32829. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Bill's life, share memories, and honor his service to his country.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to VFW Post 4287 in Bill's memory.
He served his country with honor, cherished his wife with unwavering devotion, loved his family beyond measure, and leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
