Obituary

God called one of His own, home, on Friday August 13, 2021. Carol Eugenia Brown Gentry, 84 of Orlando, FL passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.   

Carol was born in Jacksonville, FL January 9, 1937. She is preceded in death by her parents William James Brown and Matilda Benetta Johnson Brown. 

Carol resided in Jacksonville, FL and attended school at Fletcher High School and attended college at University of Florida.  Here she met her beloved husband Dan and married on August 31, 1956. She is survived by her husband Daniel E. Gentry, Sr., four children; Laurel DeMarsh (Frank), Daniel Gentry Jr. (Betty), Cindy Gentry-Mickelson (Susan), Scott Gentry (Lauri). She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren, Matt, Weegee, Miranda, Danny III, Carrie, Joey, Stephen, Jamie, Erin, Marcy, Emily, Anna, Tom, Sam, Jewell and Kara.  She also has 17 beloved great-grandchildren. 

She grew up as the oldest in a family of five children. Her siblings are William James Brown Jr. (deceased), Barbara Ann Brown McFall, Leonard Carlton Brown and Denise Loraine Brown Kridle.  

Carol was raised in the Christian Church Disciples of Christ.  She was an original and devoted member of Pershing Ave. Christian Church for 52 years. She served as an Elder, Deacon, Chairman of the Board, Sunday School teacher, Church Camp Counselor and Youth Leader. She was a dedicated Christian and instilled those qualities in her children. Volunteer work was also part of Carol’s life. She worked as an election volunteer, PTA President and Cub Scout Leader. 

Carol lived life to the fullest. She and her husband Dan traveled world-wide including regular river cruises and snow skiing adventures. Carol was a huge Florida Gator Fan cheering on the Gators as a season ticket holder. Carol was on a tennis team for many years at Ft. Gatlin Recreation Complex. These activities were shared with many life-long friends and family members. 

Carol’s family and friends knew her as a quiet, loving soul. She never tired in her care for her family. She enjoyed all of the big family gatherings and spent her life surrounded by those that she loved.

 

There will be a small family service to celebrate Carol’s life.
