Major Lawrence M. Lyon Jr., United States Air Force (Ret) was born in Orlando, Florida. He served in the Air Force from 1965 to 1985. He was a graduate of the following Orlando schools: Princeton Elementary; Robert E. Lee Junior High; and Edgewater Senior High. He then graduated from: the University of Florida with a B.S. in Management; the University of Southern California with a M.S. in Systems Management; and the Air Force Education With Industry Program at Howard Hughes Aircraft Company Los Angeles (M.B.A. Equivalent). Hughes Aircraft Company built space satellites and advanced aerospace weapons systems. Major Lyon was a B-52 Bombardier in Vietnam, an International Logistics Officer, and a Logistics War Plans Officer. He served ten years in California, ten years in Hawaii, and on Johnston Atoll in the Pacific. Following his Air Force retirement he worked on the B-1B Lancer Bomber at Rockwell International Corporation in Los Angeles. He then became a realtor in Hawaii. Major Lyon's military awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (flights under hazardous conditions in Vietnam), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Major Lyon was a member of Our Savor Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach Florida. He is survived by his daughter Laura Louise Lyon of Alton, IL, who is also a graduate of the University of Florida, with a Bachelors Degree in Architecture, and of Washington University in St. Louis with a Masters Degree in Architecture. Major Lyon is also survived by his sister Annie Lyon Copeland of Lawrenceville, GA. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, Florida on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 2:00pm. Arrangements by Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, Orlando, Florida.
