Marie Phillips

Marie (“Mickey”) Phillips passed away peacefully into the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at Cornerstone Hospice at ORMC after living with Alzheimer’s for the past eight years.   She was surrounded by her children and lots of love.

Mickey was born in Waldheim, Ukraine, the daughter of John and Marie Koehn.  She grew up in the Ukraine and later served as an interpreter for Germany during World War II since she spoke German, Russian, and Ukrainian.  Her family settled in Germany after the war since the family was German and had no desire to return to the Ukraine.

In 1953 she married the love of her life, Henry Phillips, and they remained married until his death in 1979.  After living in England and California, Mickey and Henry and their two children settled in Orlando.  She loved her full-time job as wife and mother.  If you ever visited her home you would always find it warm and welcoming, and you would never leave hungry!  She loved people.  She loved to talk.  She loved to laugh.  She loved to take pictures.  She loved to travel.  She loved her church.  She loved God.  She loved her family.  She loved life!

Mickey is predeceased by her beloved husband Henry, as well as her six siblings and their parents.  She is survived by her son Jim (Debbie), daughter Hilda (Rod) Cathey, three grandchildren, Todd and Julie Phillips and Lauren Cathey, and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL, on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 12:00pm until time of funeral service at 1:00pm.
