Marjorie Gholson

February 6, 1936 — November 25, 2021

Orlando

Born February 6, 1936 in Brockton, MA, Marjorie "Marge" Frances (née Brace) Gholson passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on November 25, 2021.  The oldest of three children, she relocated with her mother and siblings to Florida in 1950 and graduated from St. James Catholic School in 1954. She met the love of her life, Gerald "Gerry" Gholson, in 1955, and on August 11, 1956, they eloped in Georgia after their friends' wedding.  They were happily married 64 ½ years. Marge was preceded in death by her father William Brace, mother Agnes Litchfield, brother William Brace Jr., husband Gerald Gholson, daughter Kathy Ann Gholson, and granddaughter Erin Rose Hoaglen.  She is survived by her sister Ann Whitlow of Mashpee, MA, her eldest daughter Vicki Lynn Gholson, son Jerry Keith Gholson and his wife Jackie Gholson; Grandsons Perrin Hoaglen and his wife Amanda, Carl Hanson, Peter Martinez, and Alex Martinez and his wife Frances Reyes; great-grandsons Nathaniel and Alexander Jr., and great-granddaughter Evelyn.

Marge's life was full of joy and community.  She was the first woman A/C contractor in Florida and a member of Pilot International.  An avid Bridge player, she hosted and attended games regularly with friends.  One of her favorite hobbies was cross stitching, which she created a myriad of holiday decorations and gifts.  She even taught her daughters' Girl Scout troop how to embroider. Marge was a quintessential young woman from the 1950s and fan of Elvis Presley. She enjoyed reading books and sharing commentary with her son Jerry and granddaughter Erin about their favorite novels.  She was also active in her church and sang in the choir.  Her favorite animals were dachshunds and racoons, which she and Gerry had as pets.

Marge also travelled and vacationed; memorably, she and husband Gerry visited Europe after retirement. In the 2000s, they brought their children and grandchildren on two cruises--one to the Bahamas and the other on a "trip of a lifetime" to Alaska, which was Marge's dream vacation.  She was quite adventurous and even took a helicopter ride with granddaughter Erin to walk on Mendenhall Glacier.  They also visited Perry's Resort twice a year with family, which everyone has fond memories of eating donuts and hotdogs by the beach.

Marge and Gerry hosted many memorable neighborhood get-togethers and family holiday dinners at their home, and they often celebrated birthdays at Cafe Italiano or Linda's La Cantina in Orlando. Marge will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
